“ We came here for a double date night with our friends. The space is gorgeous with big tall plants all around - almost felt like we were on a vacation! -The espresso martini was our favorite out of all the cocktails we tried. -We split the wings and fries as an appetizer. Loved the dry rub, so crispy! The fry sauce was delicious as well. -The burger honestly competes with the best of them. My husband claims he thinks it's better than Parlour's burger and I agree! -Chicken yakisoba was my favorite entree. So much flavor! It's huge and filling and easy to share. -Poke bowl was super fresh and perfect if you want a lighter feeling entree that still fills the belly. Anything with jasmine rice and yum yum sauce is worth trying. Parking is difficult but there's valet :) ”
“ we stopped by Starling for New Year's Eve lunch. It was not planned and we are happened to be in the area and found this restaurant. Their lunch menu is full of interesting dishes and lots of small bites - mostly Japanese influenced (?) We ordered okonomiyaki, steak tacos and chicken yakisoba. Being obsessed with Okonomiyaki - we have tried many authentic ones and I want to say this one feels much more chewy than the ones I had before. I am more used to the airy fluffy ones. This one feels dense. The yakisoba is a bit too saucy in my liking, but the flavor is nice. We like the steak tacos. The server Amanda was very friendly and fun. She uses the fanciest vocabularies. Haha. We enjoyed our time there. ”
“ Sterling is a true gem with its aesthetically pleasing ambiance that extends from the exterior to the bar and restaurant even to its bathrooms. The food was nothing short of amazing--every dish we tried was a hit. The steak was perfectly tender, the green curry packed a punch of rich, aromatic flavors, and the chicken yakisoba was simply delicious. Don't skip dessert; it's the perfect sweet ending to a memorable meal. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 is due to the service. While the staff was friendly, we did experience some delays. After our initial check-in, our server didn't return, leaving us unable to order another round of drinks. I also finished my meal without a water refill. Despite this, I'd happily return for the fantastic food and to check out their highly recommended happy hour specials! ”
“ Great experience and cute vibes, but nothing super special. I came here after hearing about the ube tres leches. Heard the had a happy hour so I had to come for good deals. 5 sticky wings for $9 is a great price, and the wings were delicious. I would highly recommend as they came out piping hot and crispy with a delicious sauce. We also snacked in fries which were just fries. It came with a curry salt and a spicy aioli but wasn't anything special. Still a decent deal for happy hour. Drinks were $2 off for happy hour which made my Vietnamese Coffee Martini only $13. It was nice and sweet, and was a nice touch on the drink. The ube tres leches was a little bit of a let down. The ube flavor was extremely light and if my eyes were closed, I wouldn't know it was Ube flavored. The cake itself was a little dense in my opinion. I honestly wouldn't recommend it if you're an actual ube fan. Overall the vibes were great and the restaurant is super cute. Food came out quickly and our server was lovely. The drinks are pretty and the happy hour deals were great. It was worth a try but I don't think I'd return. ”
“ Beautiful vibe and ambience; I really enjoyed the round booths and the green color story. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with bird wallpaper and had bird chirping playing over a speaker. One thing that I think is missing is a sort of identity. Starling birds live all over the world but I think I assumed it was an American-cuisine when I looked this place up. Studying the menu, it has a lot of Asian flavors from Bali, Philippines and India. I can't say that anything on the menu really jumped out at me but what we got was good. My friend and I split the pork buns and the Balinese fried rice, which had great flavor. The tres leches cake was good but I don't think the Ube added any flavor. The drinks were not good.. I got the Purple starling and my friend got the red starling (same drink just no alcohol). There was an overly sweet weird taste, might be the one syrup, and it wasn't even purple! ”
“ Starling was perfect for our girls get together! We made reservations ahead of time and were sat right away in a beautiful booth. The ambience is gorgeous with all the greenery and mirrors! It was very warm and inviting. The food and drinks were fantastic. There's a parking lot which was really nice. We'll definitely be back! ”
“ Cute spot with good food! Lots of seating, but minimal parking spots. I recall seeing there are nearby lots that can be used, but double check. Got the a mocktail, Red Starling, which was very tasty. My initial thought was it had a slight nutty taste, but perhaps that's just the Ube I was picking up on. Nevertheless great drink. The Chicken Yakisoba (noodles) were fine. I picked up on something acidic, like lime, which I could have done without. Otherwise good flavor. Yes I would return (and hopefully have an easier time finding if next time). ”
“ Situated underneath a luxury apartment complex in Edina, Starling represents an easy neighborhood joint that could be considered for date night as much as weekend brunch or casual happy hour. The menu is self proclaimed "globally inspired" and after one browse through the dishes, you can tell the time, effort, and energy that went into its curation. The bar is beautiful, with comfortable seating and a lovely backdrop with mirrored arches. There are plenty of windows offering ample natural light, and with numerous plants and an open floor concept, it's easy to reject the idea that you are sitting on the ground floor of an apartment building. As for the food, I was unfortunately quite mixed. - Curry Cauliflower: skip, especially for $16. Very small portion and I did not taste a hint of curry. The additions of raisins and almonds felt like an afterthought and there wasn't a discernible sauce to me. For only two dollars less than the burger and wings, very disappointing. - Burger: solid, but so so many better options (think GusGus, Parlour, Petite Leon, StepChld). If you are not into the smash patty craze, it may earn a few extra points in your book. But the bun was slightly dry and the onions and mayo did not come through to add much needed flavor. Also, not a big fan of American cheese. I'm being overly critical, it's a fine burger, but hard to compete with some of the better spots in Mpls/St. P. - Sticky Wings: 10/10, first of all, you get ten wings, and even though the drums/flats are on the smaller end, they are so rich and tasty that splitting them with your dining mates will leave you somewhat full. Sometimes wet wings get a little soggy, and although the fish sauce caramel generously coats each wing, their crispiness persists. The fried garlic, cilantro, and shallot combination pairs well with the umami flavor bursting from the fish sauce. A welcome "globally" inspired take on a typically more basic dish. Overall, very reasonably priced, save the silly little cauliflower dish, and their cocktails seem creative, although I opted for red wine on both visits. Hopefully the residents living above can spread the word, as it's somewhat hidden off a roundabout. I think we just missed on a few dishes, otherwise closer to 4.5/5. ”
